The Ten Tshuva Days

In the Selichot and in the prayers of the days of repentance the Patriarchs are mentioned, and we hope and pray that through their merit we may attain forgiveness. According to Rabbinic tradition, it is our ancestral merit that defends the Jewish People during the Days of Judgment and Mercy. During the days of repentance, there is no place like Ma'arat HaMachpela for praying for ancestral merit, for mentioning the covenant of Abraham and the Binding of Isaac. At that time, the Ma'ara is packed with worshippers, and during some of those days, the entire site is open to Jews. Our central Selichot service [the first night of Ashkenazic Selichot] is exciting and special.
